How to stop playing small without burning your life down
Playing small is rarely a decision. It accumulates — a request you didn't make, a rate you didn't raise, an idea you kept to yourself because the room felt busy.
Ambition is not usually the missing ingredient. Capacity is. Hard conversations are expensive, and people running on empty postpone them indefinitely, then read the postponement as a character flaw.
So the correction runs on two tracks: one honest sentence a week said to the person who actually needs to hear it, and a recovery routine that leaves you with something to say it with.
Big changes tend to be the visible part of a long series of small ones. Start with the smallest one you are still avoiding.
