How to become more open to receiving

Give someone a compliment and watch how fast they hand it back. Offer help and watch the reflex to decline. Receiving badly is so normal we mistake it for modesty.

It shows up physically too. Rest gets treated as a reward for finishing rather than the thing that makes the next effort possible — so recovery is the first item cut from a busy week.

The cost is real: if you can't take anything in, you will keep building a life that requires you to produce every part of it yourself, on an account you never top up.

Practise small. Accept one offer of help and don't repay it within the fortnight, and take the four minutes at the end of your next session instead of skipping them. This is mindset work, not financial or medical advice — but how you receive rarely stays confined to one part of your life.
